Isn’t That What Iraq had Before?

Commenting on the current and future state of Iraq, US officials including some of the top generals in charge are conceding that democracy is at best a “lofty” unattainable goal in Iraq.  The long-term future, they concede, should include a government that can provide services to the people and security.  If not democracy then what kind of political structure can provide that?
One might argue that Iraq had security and services (as well as brutality) under Saddam.  Bunker prediction:  watch for some kind of puppet dictator if whenever the US pulls out of the country.  So much for the self-congratulatory nonsense over elections in the country.

And then they’ll be right back to, yeah, he’s a bastard, but he’s our bastard.

… and the American people will accept that because it’s easier to deal with than, ‘our government is incompetent’.

After not too much time, we’ll probably see something equivalent to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDABe8AOuCQ.

And then history may, surprisingly, repeat itself.
