What A Great Idea
Personally I think that everyone south of the boarder should participate in this, hell, I’d like to see it gain traction up here, and not just necessarily for the reasons noted on the flier - although they are, IMO, really good reasons.

Western governments have become far to accustomed to doing what they want, when they want, and only worrying about what the general population thinks about it if there is an election on the horizon, or the threat of an election looming over them.
That is, in large measure, due to western populations who are far to willing to shrug their shoulders at one government action or another and do little more than mutter phrases like, ‘It’s the government, what can we do?” or, “They’re the government and we are powerless.”
That’s a crock of course, although it is what the government is happiest with people believing, the fact is that if the people are powerless it is because they willingly, and with their eyes wide open, choose to be powerless.
This is something that the people can do. Don’t go to work, call in sick, take an annual leave day, burn up some of that lieu time, don’t go to school, don’t buy anything, it’s just for one day - minimal planning, minimal effort, maximum impact.

Why September 11th?
Because it is a powerful and symbolic day to take a step back and look what has happened to our country in the last six years. Is it “inappropriate†or “disrespecful†to take the day off, reflect, and express your dissent (quietly and personally or loudly and publicly) or rather to go about your business as if this was just another a normal day?
A lot has happened in our country as well, and a days reflection on those changes wouldn’t hurt us a bit.
On September 11, 2007 let’s express some of that friendship and solidarity with America that our politicians keep talking about, and join them.

Sounds like a good idea. I’m a little hesitant about participating in anything that says “9/11 questions ” since that has become a bit of a code phrase for kooks who think the buildings had bombs in them, or didn’t fall because freakin’ jets flew into them. But I’ve joined the facebook group anyway, and will probably try to take that day off work.
Everybody I know has at least one question about September 11, 2001 Saskboy, the 9/11 Commission had a bunch of them. It doesn’t have to involve a conspiracy, it just has to be, in your mind, a legitimate question.
… and there’s enough else there that should be fairly easy to get behind - the Maher Arar case alone covers a good portion of the list in their flier.

Whooee! I’d be happy as Larry to see this general strike carried out by a large enough number to have an impact. I ain’t holdin’ my breath, though. The Merkans is masters of the “support the troops” meme. They’ll manage to convince enough flagwavers that strikin’ is unpatriotic an’ if there’s one thing Merkans don’t like, it’s bein’ called unpatriotic.
They almighty dollar is more important to some people and most corporations than even kids’ safety. Stayin’ away from work ain’t an option fer the greedy or fer the workin’ poor.
