Get Yer Rapture On
If ya got nothing else to look forward to, Armageddon is probably as good a choice as any.
$1,200,000.00 a year and a 5,000 square foot home – not a bad gig if ya can get the faithful to pay for it ‘eh?

I have seen and read many many examples of this kind of thinking and am still always amazed and fascinated at the silliness of it all.
Even as a Christian myself, I find many of the attitudes and comments in this video disturbing.
As a jew, I find the whole idea behind CUFI a) insulting and b) very scary and disturbing. The fact that this guy can get a bunch of scared, naive do-gooders to shell out their hard-earned cash for his preaching shows how low parts of our civilization has sunk, and how scary religion can be in the wrong hands.
It also shows just how much of a hack Joe Lieberman is. He’s almost as bad as Tom Cruise and John Travolta. But I guess he’s a better actor.
Fundies, regardless of their religious stripe, are a disturbing lot. That many of them gathered in one place waving flags, dancing around, and having fits of religious ecstasy while hoping for armageddon to happen before the sun sets, is just down right frightening.
[...] Christians calling for military strikes against Iran. Christians who don’t even know their own Bible. Christians calling for the Battle of Armageddon. [...]
Those guys in the video were throwing around the term Armaggedon pretty freely.
I wonder how many of them know its actual origin – it is a modification of the name of an archealogical mound in the Galilee region of Israel. The Hebrew name is Megido, and was originally built on a raised hill, or Har, hence Har Megido. It was the site of many previous civilizations, dating back likely to the beginnings of agricultre in the region. It was also often the nexus of many trade routes, primarily the silk, salt and spice roads. As such, it was a prominent town and the site of many battles, so it was often well-fortified.
Due to its strategic importance, many probably believed that the final battle would occur at this important crossroads. At the time of the many biblical writings, the common tongue was a Greek dialect, so that Har Megido became Armageddon.
Megido is a popular archeological dig and tourist attration, although no one has actually lived there for many centuries. I wonder if these people believe that the final battle will occur at archeological dig and tourist site. Will the great Christian armies use precision picks, trowels and dust brushes? To attack Satan’s roving bands of church groups in tour buses?
(As an aside, an amazing place to visit if you’re ever near the Holy Land)
