Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

It may seem like a quiet country where not much happens besides ice hockey, curling and beer drinking. But our neighbor to the north is proving to be quite the draw for thousands of disgruntled Americans.
The number of U.S. citizens who moved to Canada last year hit a 30-year high, with a 20 percent increase over the previous year and almost double the number who moved in 2000.
In 2006, 10,942 Americans went to Canada, compared wirh 9,262 in 2005 and 5,828 in 2000, according to a survey by the Association for Canadian Studies.

Those numbers are not as big as the numbers of us moving there, but as the article notes, the number of Canadians doing that is shrinking.

Whooee! I welcome any Merkan refugees. I worry a little that they might have rose-coloured notions of our idyllic socialistic state. I hope they ain’t too disappointed. I hope they leave their guns at home. I hope they don’t start up a Canajun Republican Party. I hope they start sayin’ “Eh,” instead o’ “Huh.” I hope they like payin’ taxes. I hope they don’t mind waitin’ 18 months fer a hip or knee operation. I hope each an’ every one of ‘em joins the Green Party.
