As unfortunate as it is, I do believe Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri when he says he was tortured into confessing to involvement in the attack on the USS Cole in 2000.
Once upon a time if a prisoner of a country like the United States or Great Britain claimed they had been tortured into a confession I, and most of the free world, would have considered the claim preposterous, but not any more.
Too much water has passed under the bridge, the United States has admitted to waterboarding prisoners, there have been far too many stories of other violent torture and abuse in US detention and interrogation camps to consider them all lies, and indeed people have died under interrogation in their facilities - why shouldn’t I believe this guy?
