More Bad PR On The Way

Too bad for The Decider that the world is just not willing to forget that a supposedly civilized western country condones torture ‘eh? Worse for the people of the United States that they’re so closely associated with him.

“The Ghosts of Abu Ghraib” - a new HBO documentary - traces the political and legal precedents that led to the torture of prisoners at the infamous Iraqi prison. It includes numerous interviews with U.S. soldiers directly involved with torture at Abu Ghraib, Iraqi torture survivors as well as experts, legal scholars and former government officials.

That’s gonna hurt a few reputations, personal and national.

The Prisoner, or: How I Planned to Kill Tony Blair

Abu Ghraib prison is notorious for images that surfaced in 2003 showing horrific abuses of Iraqis by U.S. soldiers, but a new documentary aims to highlight the plight facing many innocent Iraqis by depicting the humdrum misery there.

[.....]

But the film does not focus on any of the graphic images or depictions of abuses that made the prison an international scandal. And that is exactly the point, Tucker told Reuters in an interview.

“People are so jaded with basic human suffering that unless it is sensational, they don’t respond to it,” he said.

‘TREATED LIKE ANIMALS’

The interrogations innocent Iraqis like Abbas suffer every day deserve as much attention as the now infamous photographs of abuse at Abu Ghraib, Tucker said .

“We can’t forget these are civilian people being treated like animals,” he said.

In adopting the tactics of those America says it is fighting against, what have they now become?

Pre-emptive statement to the upper-right-quadrant:

We are well aware that the other guys have engaged in the same torture tactics, heck, we are well aware that many of them have probably even done a hell of a lot worse, we now return you to your regularly scheduled commenting.
