That’s how Bill Maher characterizes Democrats who have pulled out of the Fox debate - I wonder how many of the Republican candidates would show up for an Air America debate?

This has to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. Why does it even matter who sponsors the debate? They’ll be debating each other, not some right wing shill.
It just strikes me as odd.
As to your second point, the Las Vegas Review Journal wrote an excellent op-ed on this “issue.” In it, they point out that if candidates started having litmus tests for where their debates were, no one would debate.
The network it is on is not relevant, the moderator would be, as would the questions, the debating points, and how they were phrased.
(Although given recent info that indicates that Republicans trust [and therefor] Fox and Democrats trust [and therefor watch] CNN it may be a simple matter of network demographics.)
Normally I would agree the network is irrelevant, but Fox isn’t normal. The problem isn’t that it’s conservative — that is irrelevant — but that it distorts, even lies, about the news. It’s about standards. To collaborate with Fox is to collaborate with the debasement of journalism.
You would be surprised how many Republicans would be glad to show up on an Air America radio interview–assuming that Air America is still broadcasting anywhere other than Al Franken’s basement, that is.
And Bill, where specifically has Fox lied about the news? I can point to several examples of AP, CNN, CBC and other networks deliberately distorting the news to fit a left-wing agenda.
I would actually be quite surprised if the GOP trusted Air America any more than the Dems trust Fox - for the same reasons.
BTW: Air America is indeed broadcasting, catch ‘em on the ‘net at airamerica.com
I don’t think webcasting counts as broadcasting SL, but AA is still broadcasting despite being in Chapter 11. XM Satellite Radio and about 65 affiliates in the US.
I’m not sure how much longer they can keep going though with their balance sheet the way it is–even under a Chapter 11 filing. They tried to build an all-leftwing hate-fest and failed miserably.
And I don’t think the GOP trusts ANY media at this point, AA included. But I’m sure that Republicans would still be willing to show up on Air America. The recent offer by AA to host the Republican debates in NY smacks of political grandstanding by the new management–but if accepted, I wonder if the netroots would allow AA to host a Republican debate. They seem to be applying a litmus test for media nowadays–and that should worry people.

I can’t imagine why any Democrat in their right mind would collaborate with what is essentially America’s right-wing version of Pravda.
