300

I saw the movie on opening night, it was a great movie, I enjoyed it tremendously, and by the sounds of the applause during the movie I’m pretty sure that others enjoyed it just as much – I’m also pretty darned sure that the audience wasn’t thinking anything at all about Iran.

We saw it Saturday night. Went for the 10pm showing. It was excellent. And if your a history buff it was easy to pick up the subtle references to actual accounts of what we can best guess at about that time period and I found it humorous that it was done with subtle hints in the dialog. But the soundtrack didn’t fit. This was an epic sort of film and the heavy metal just didn’t work for me with the film. I will find the OST because it was good music. Just didn’t seem to fit the film.

My prof mentioned this in class today. He thinks that the movie is insulting to “Persians” (it was the first and only time he self-identified as a Persian rather than an Iranian).

I think any movie that displays Greeks fighting the Persians from a Greek viewpoint will get this reputation among those who wish to be offended by such a telling of the story.
