Up until a little while ago we all knew what a “leftie” was. A leftie was someone who advocated social liberalism, or social democracy, the responsibility of government to make sure that the less fortunate and/or disadvantaged are not forgotten, and a generally secular society. Admittedly those can be somewhat ambiguous descriptions, apparently a bit to ambiguous for those in the pro-Iraq war, pro-Bush camp, so it’s been redefined.

More and more often (the latest example here) we see and hear “the left” being those who are anti-Iraq-war and/or anti-Bush; a far easier concept to grasp.

The left now apparently includes all the Canadian conservatives who think Georges little adventure in Iraq is a flop, and all the Republicans in the US who think George screwed it up, and all the Libertarians who consider that America has failed, and all the anarchists who think the best thing that could happen is that The Decider issue orders to pull out of Iraq and then resign his office, and even the last Catholic Pope, are now part of “the left”.

With numbers like that the left is certainly a force to be reckoned with, can }}}gasp{{{ American socialized medicine be far behind?

….. no wonder they’re so nervous these days.
