I’ve had that discussion with different people Candace, and that is indeed what it comes down to - if the people who have been wronged is clamoring for the death let them be the ones pulling the switch, pressing the button, or throwing the lever. Let them select from among themselves the person who will be responsible for carrying out their revenge and kill the person who has wronged them

Society has given over responsibility for punishment or revenge to others, we’ve hired people to look after those distasteful responsibilities like a pair of weak kneed parents afraid to discipline their naughty child - so they hire a nanny to do it for them to avoid the personal guilt and trauma.

The Phantom Observer has a good post on this - to summarize, Hussein got the best trial he could under the circumstances, and to expect a court with a different culture, fledgling government etc to ‘provide’ a US or Canada-like trial is unrealistic. He says it a lot better, though.
