Over at Townhall.com Dennis Prager seems to be of the opinion that American civilization is being undermined because the first Muslim elected to the US Congress is going to swear his oath on the Koran instead of the bible.
Apparently swearing an oath of office on a holy book that actually means something to the person taking the oath is
…an act of hubris that perfectly exemplifies multiculturalist activism — my culture trumps America’s culture. What Ellison and his Muslim and leftist supporters are saying is that it is of no consequence what America holds as its holiest book; all that matters is what any individual holds to be his holiest book.
Really? I would think that it means he is swearing a very public oath on the holiest book he can get his hands on - and that means something, something a heck of a lot more than swearing an oath on somebody else’s holy book…. wouldn’t you think?
I recall giving information at a set of hearings some years ago and choosing to solemnly swear and affirm that I was going to tell the truth instead of going the biblical “so help me god” route. After I finished and sat down a woman sitting behind me leaned forward and said, “You didn’t swear on the bible, you could have been lying.”
Huh? Since when did the Christian holy book have some sort of magical power that compels people to tell the truth whether they believe in what is written there, or in the the god that supposedly gave its content to its’ authors?
Forcing Ellison swear an oath of office on a bible is much like forcing Jerry Falwell to swear an oath on the Koran - pointless.
How about we let Prager in on the fact that Nixon, a twice elected Republican president, swore his oath of office on the bible - and look how he turned out.

Excellent points. But you’re missing their point is to toss out partisan BS for blogs to tear apart, or parrot, so that people will continue to read them.
