“Impacts of War & Torture on the Next Generation: Children & Youth”

Brown Bag Event Description

Please join Ms. Nojoumi as she explores the general topic of children/youth of survivor parents.

The presentation will include an overview of indicators of children of survivor parents, how to
determine if further intervention is necessary, where to refer them if more attention or assistance is required, and other related topics.

This presentation will be followed by a short Q&A session.

Speaker/Presenter: Ms. Farah Nojoumi, OCISO

Ms. Nojoumi, who is a Senior Counselor at OCISO, has extensive counseling experience with
families who are survivors of war trauma and torture. Ms. Nojoumi is originally from Iran, where
she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, specializing in Psychiatric Social Work. In
Iran, she gained thirteen years of work experience in a psychiatric hospital working with adults
and children as part of a team of mental health specialists. She moved to Canada in 1993, where she has continued to work in this field, acquiring further expertise and specializing in working with immigrants and refugees, including survivors of war trauma and torture.
