Thousands of weapons the United States has provided Iraqi security forces are missing, according a new report to Congress. The Pentagon cannot account for 14,030 weapons — 13,180 semiautomatic pistols, 751 assault rifles and 99 machine guns — almost four per cent of the semiautomatic pistols, assault rifles, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenade launchers and other weapons it began supplying to Iraq since the end of 2003.
Is it just me, or does anyone else remember Bush and Cheney justifying the American invasion of Iraq partly because Hussein “couldn’t account for” a small percentage of the weapons left over after the Gulf War? Does anyone else remember Bush supporters seizing on that same observation in the Kay report as “proof positive” that Saddam was concealing WMD?
Calling Hans Blix…

It must have been an intelligence failure Balb. Or, of course, the insurgency are just borrowing them. They will undoubtedly return them with flowers, bread and open arms extended in about 4 days (or was that 4 weeks or 4 months). It shouldn’t be any longer than that.
