None of those are reasons to do nothing. Which is what the Liberals did and what the Conservatives are now doing.

Explain to me why the Cons are so keen to act like the Libs on this.

The Liberals did sweet buggar all for 13 years. The CPC have targets that magically match those of Liberal leadership candidates, and get shot down. The NDP would have us all ride transit, even in places where transit isn’t possible (see the NDP’s budget amendments re gas taxes going toward transit, even in towns that DON’T HAVE TRANSIT). The Bloc doesn’t think Quebec pollutes and so should be exempt from whatever plans are put into place.

You guys go ahead & wait for the government (any government) to come up with a plan you like. I’ll carry on doing what I’m doing, and encouraging others to do the same. Since the city I live in doesn’t even HAVE smog days*, I’m ahead of the game.

*I suspect this is prairie payback in that the winds blow our crap to Toronto. I have no scientific proof of this, but tell me what stands higher than maybe 100 ft (other than the odd building) between Edmonton & Toronto…

shlemazl, the demonstrations, like all demonstrations, show government that people are concerned - no government does anything unless there is pressure exerted upon them from somewhere.

It doesn’t matter how much Canada contributes - what happened to all that conservative talk of Canada being a world leader? Harper and the boys do a lot of talking about it, they have an opportunity to be different from the Liberals here and are blowing it.

Personal action is important, I do the same things to help reduce waste and energy use. In addition to putting pressure on governments to do something more than add to the planetary hot air content these demos are awareness raising exercises fro the public in general - if a few thousand people at a demo can change one mind progress has been made.
