As I was watching the news and commentary that discussed the 60% of Iraqi people who approve of attacks on US troops in Iraq, and while reading a few of the uber [and not quite so uber]-righties who took such offense at the very thought of Iraqi people being on side with this type of behaviour, something was nagging me about the tone of the discussion, an elusive something that I couldn’t quite put my finger on, then, it hit me…….

They’ve forgotten that the US is the aggressor, they’ve forgotten that the United States was the country that rallied the “coalition of the willing” and convinced them to defy considered world opinion and attack, bomb the living shit out of, invade, and then occupy, Iraq, as a matter of US foreign policy.

That’s the only possible explanation for what we’re hearing, they’ve friggen forgot that they are the ones who are responsible for this whole mess — of course the majority of the people are pissed off at them. I wonder if you could find one single person in Iraq today who has not lost a friend, an acquaintance, an immediate family member, a relative, a business partner, a co-worker, a house, a business, or a job, to The Deciders war? How many people have been maimed, wounded, made cripple, made orphan, or widow(er), and/and lost their homes and livelihoods in the furtherance of US foreign policy? How many people have been harassed, or beaten, or had their doors kicked down in the middle of the night to be hauled from their beds and homes and tossed in a prison camp on the rumour of the suspicion of something…. and held for days, weeks, months, years….. on the rumour of the suspicion of something?

I mean come on people, give your heads a friggen shake will you, god quit being so stupid and pissing off people who can think. Your government decided that your military would go in and give the government of the day there the boot to set up one that they liked, so that their people could somehow feel safer in their beds at night; and in the process of administering this particular placebo nearly 50,000 average, everyday, ordinary, Iraqi, men, women, and children, people with families, and friends, and jobs got killed — wtf do you expect?

– flowers and fresh bread at the gates of Baghdad? Wide open doors and nubile Iraqis throwing themselves into your arms? Flowers in gun barrels and steaming hot bowls of kouzai?

– to be welcomed as liberators? I doubt even Rumsfeld himself believed that crap when he first said it, the United States is a foreign invader and occupying force, full stop, end of story.

There’s even been a bunch of idiots muttering things like ‘we should just leave their ungrateful asses if that’s the thanks we get’ making their thoughts on the matter known - leave? Leave? Words fail me, it boggles the mind, really, it does (Lily where’s my medication)… leave? Your government never should have gone in the first place.

Listen up here ok…. all you folks who are genuinely surprised to discover that the majority of Iraqi people may think that killing your soldiers is not necessarily a bad thing, all you folks who are scratching your heads and wondering “why”, gather ’round uncle stageleft while I whisper a few words of reason into your ears to help you out — the really surprising thing here is that as many as 40% of Iraqi people don’t think attacking them is a good thing.
