It’s working, there’s no doubt in my mind that it’s working. The “be afraid, be very afraid, there’s an Islamic terrorist around every corner” crowd must be really proud of themselves at this point.

As I was watching the news and commentary that discussed the 60% of Iraqi people who approve of attacks on US troops in Iraq, and while reading a few of the uber [and not quite so uber]-righties who took such offense at the very thought of Iraqi people being on side with this type of behaviour, something was nagging me about the tone of the discussion, an elusive something that I couldn’t quite put my finger on, then, it hit me…….
During the last election campaign we heard a whole lot out of Stephen Harper on arctic sovereignty, an increased military presence in the arctic, armed ice breakers partolling the shores, etc., …. 9 months into his gig we’ve seen one arctic tour, a little bit of rhetoric, and not much else.

There’s a fair amount of angst on the right about Mel Gibson’s repudiation of the “War” on “Terror”, almost a sense of betrayal.Their surprise is puzzling, because Mel is a staunch Roman Catholic, and the highest profile, most vocal critic of the “War” was Pope John Paul II.

Really, it’s a tough call. When they all lie, cheat, steal, break the law, and make crap up about how bad the other guys are, or will be if they ever grab on to the reigns of power, deciding on which name on the ballot to put your “X” beside can be a down-right depressing experience.
