It’s a rare thing for the bunker to offer praise to a sitting government Minister, let alone a CPoC Minister, be that as it may we’re doing it tonight…. we sincerly hope this is a one in a row trend that continues, and that the government has the balls to stick to their position.
In response to an article in the Globe and Mail concerning whether or not the Geneve Conventions did, or did not, apply to Taliban fighters captured in Afghanistan Defence Minister Gordon O’Connor made Canadas position crystal clear
“When they take prisoners, they will always follow the rules of the Geneva Convention, no lower standard than that,”
No wimbling around, no redefining words we all know the meaning of, no side stepping the issues, and no looking for loop holes to crawl through - just a plain language statement of our position.

Good man. I’m proud of us. The Geneva Convention is not supposed to be a legal challenge you struggle to work your way around through nitpicking, as exemplified by Bush and Co. It’s a statement of principles that tries to introduce a bottom line of morality into the treatment of prisoners. What really matters is trying to understand and respect that basic level of human decency, not trying to circumvent it.
