Whitehouse Press Secretary Scott McClellan, apparently completely confused as to who the Prime Minister of Canada currently is, made quite the gaffe yesterday:
“The president, first of all, had a good discussion with Prime Minister Martin yesterday. That was a call that Prime Minister Martin initiated…”
It was an understandable, if not regrettable error. It was not his last, however, in the same press conference.
“Later, after correctly noting Bush would meet for the first time with “Prime Minister Harper” in Cancun, McClellan concluded by asserting again that the U.S. president “looks forward to visiting with prime minister Martin.” [More]
Combined, the errors put McClellan in famed Abbot & Costello Territory. Anyway, it was an honest mistake considering all of the stress that Bush staffers are apparently under these days. No doubt coming up with ever new half truths and bullshit spins on the war in Iraq can make it difficult getting facts straight, like their next door neighbour’s prime minister’s name, for instance. Â
