More studies and stuff are needed, eh? It must warm the hearts of bureaucrats and consultants and lawyers everywhere. This is almost as much fun as the eternally re-announced defence spending of which the Liberals were so fond.

Isn’t this what usauly happens, Liberals get beat up for reneging on promisses and Conservative get beat up for keeping them. The funny thing is we are so use to broken promisses we are shocked when the actually do something they claimed and seem to be more upset when they tell the truth.
Just look at the outrage of Ontario when Harris did the things he ran on. Yet there is less anger at Mcdolty for keeping almost none of his.

We claim we want good governance but don’t care if they keep their word, in fact we don’t expect them to. There has to be some name for this kind of group psychosis

Kubera: I prefer politicians who can admit that a promise was ill-conceived and backs away over those so pigheaded that they implement a campaign promise even after outside examination shows that the promise is itself a bad idea. The only problem is that politicians (in general) have a lot of trouble admitting that their promises were bunk. It has bugger-all to do with whether Liberals or Conservatives are the ones doing it; good governance includes admitting that the ideas that come out of campaign pandering are not necessarily good.

In short: Keeping stupid promises — bad, weaselling out of stupid promises — iffy, admitting stupid promises were just that — good.

The Cons made a bunch of pandering, vote-buying promises in this campaign — the GST cut, a baby bonus so flawed that that it helps rich single-income families more than those where both parents must work to make ends meet, a back-to-the-80s approach to drugs, and scrapping Kelowna to name four. I would have more respect if they would honestly revisit or scrap those promises; however, these guys have shown themselles to be no more trustowrthy than the last bunch.
