This is a very good point. Seeing as the Minister of Public Works oversees the contracts being let by a government, it seems more than a little unethical/secretive to have that Minister not be available for Question Period. I wonder what they are afraid of would come out if their Min of P. W. had to answer questions, and what may it mean for the kinds of contracts Harper’s government will be putting out?

I know I wasn’t watching it unfold this morning with thoughts of Harper or CPoC bashing - quite frankly I was more interested in how he might balance Alberta in cabinet while keeping Ont/Que happy, and had, at best, ho-hum expectations for the whole thing.
On the upside I suppose it’s better in the long run that Canadians see early on in the game that Harper and the CPoC are really no different than Martin and the Liberals… it’s a short fall from hopeful to disillusioned on day 1, dragging it out serves no purpose other than to make the inevitable more painful.
OK friends we’re going to stick Fortier in the Senate with the Public Works ministry. No one can question him there while he tears it apart. He’ll find the hidden stuff and make the Libs look worse than ever.
And Emerson can fill us in on all the Lib inside stuff and the big bonus, what he knows about Dingwall.

No, Stageleft, it may LOOK like exactly the kind of cynical patronage that Harper claimed to loathe so much. But it’s very different, because it’s NOT the Liberals who are doing it. This is simply a case of selecting absolutely the very best person in ALL of Canada for the job, no doubt after a gruelling and exhaustive search.
