Somebody is gonna have to explain to me, in simple language, why the right bank of the Canadian mainstream is having such difficultly with getting rid of the, ‘we don’t care if the supreme law of our land says we can’t do this, we’re the government, and we’re gonna do it anyway dammit’ clause.
The rights and interests of Canadians are protected by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, do we really want our government to have the authority to step outside of that constitutional document and make laws that are not subject to judicial review?

Sl,
I am not sure that the Right is universally against the NWC. At least I haven’t read or seen a stream of bloggers jumping on that bandwagon. I did read one post (can’t remember where) on a right side blog that criticized getting rid of it on the grounds that it put all the power back in the hands of the SCC.
I also don’t think many on either side took Martin’s surprise announcement on the NWC suriously. It was an attempt to “change the channel” and it didn’t work.
