The much anticipated release of Justice Gomery’s first report on the Sponsorship Scandal will come in the morning. Most on the Right anticipate the report with pig roast like salivation. Liberals are (or should be) shaking in their boots. Gomery is not afraid to speak his mind. How he has decided to do so will shape the future of the country. Let’s hope he has maintained some level of objectivity; the office he holds and the future of our parliamentary democracy depends on it.

Americans had more to fear from their own weapons of mass destruction than the ones their war president scared them into invading and occupying a country thousands of kilometers away over…. fate certainly does have a strange sense of humour doesn’t she?

It seems frequent commentor here at the Basement Bunker(tm), Candace, has embarked on a mission to find the “meaning” behind our esteemed colleague “Balbulican’s” nickname. She has done an incredible amount of work on the subject. Candace even went so far as to post a picture with Stageleft’s mug (mistakenly [...]

As Kashechewan [not so slowly] fades from the spotlight in the wake of government promises to rebuild the community that seem, for now anyway, to have assuaged public outrage, other stories remain a long way under Canadian mainstream radar, waiting, if they are lucky enough, for the media explosion that may effect change.

Andrew has a great post with a very legitimate question: “How do Libertarians resolve the abortion question; whose rights take precedence”?
Abortion, like euthanasia, is definitely one of the most contentious issues before us now. The former continues to be a hot topic as Bush attempts to appoint folks to the US Supreme Court [...]

We’ve had a number of discussions here about whether or not the Bush government, the various (Right)WingNuts, and the pro-war/pro-Bush hard right are, or are not, attempting to stifle debate – and to what degree they may be succeeding? Offered as more food for thought, via The Canadian Lemming, the story of Daniel Goetz, and his blog All the King’s Horses [ The Tattered Coat | In Search of the Truth | Night Bird's Fountain ]

I decided to check the Hansard Report (Thursday, October 27th, 2005 is the latest available) to see how the various opposition partiy leaders were dealing with the Kashechewan issue – if we can use the order of their oral questions as any indicator of where this plays with the parties it looks like this.

“The Bush administration is now the only government in the world to claim a legal justification for mistreating prisoners during interrogations” — quite the dubious distinction isn’t it?

After reading this article there is little doubt in my mind that the “with us or against us” shite Bush that spouted, and (Right)WingNuts gleefully parroted, has taken firm (and possibly long lasting) root in the good ‘ole US of A.

David Dingwall has been exonerated by the PriceWaterhouseCoopers’ audit of his expenses. The right in this country jumped on the “all liberals are crooks” bandwagon the moment CPC Brian Pallister made his unsubstantiated allegations of “money for nothing and chicklets for free”. He and they were wrong.

Potential great hoopla over Raymond Lévesque refusing the G-G’s Performing Arts Award – if he doesn’t want it on political principles fine, that’s his decision, I do take (significant) issue with his uninformed comments on the refusal.

A Toronto-area MP is in a promotional video for the Church of Scientology – so what? I don’t imagine we will have to look very far to find CPoC folks complaining about the MP and the Liberal Party while decrying the group being criminally convicted in the past – in all probability the same group of people who promote conventional religion while ignoring or minimizing mainstream chuch officials diddlying little boys behind the alter curtains.
