Forcing people to vote is anti-democratic to the core. It also ignores the basic question and problem with our democracy that often close to half of the population feel no need to cast a ballot.
We should be looking at the reasons why so many can’t be bothered to participate. We should reform the democracy to make it more useful and inclusive so that it does not leave so many feeling that they don’t care, can’t make a difference or are just fed up with the usual speeches, broken promises and usual players fighting over the same stuff day in and day out.
