Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, an aid to former SoS Colin Powell, has recently stated that the material handed to him for review by Powell that was to form the basis the US presentation to the UN on Saddam Hussein’s supposed danger to the world was
“……anything but an intelligence document. It was, as some people characterized it later, sort of a Chinese menu from which you could pick and choose.”
– he also describes the whole mess as “the lowest point” in his life.
Quite frankly we’ve pretty well given up on current America doing anything about the blatant lies willful deception that Bush and his administration engaged in to sell his invasion and occupation of Iraq to them; apparently it’s easier to stick their heads in the sand and/or give a fatalistic shrug while muttering ‘our president, right or wrong…..’ than it is to look beyond the fear and the rhetoric and admit that their government knowingly lied to deceived them in pursuit of Bush’s (IMO) personal ambition.
I cannot help but to think though that future generations will not be as kind to him. As time passes, and more and more of these observations see the light of day, and as more and more people shed the personal shame of their role in events, and as more people see that the fear has been manufactured speak out about how those fears were created, history will judge Bush, and those who aided him - it will not be a kind judgement, and millions of Americans will see this as a very low point in their nations history as well.
