What A Difference A Name Makes ‘eh?

If you’re a light skinned American fella whose name happens to be Charles, and you happen to be from a Republican State, and you try and get on a plane with a IED (which you yourself describe as ”basically a pipe bomb,”) in your carry on bag, and you have friends like a former Oklahoma City mayor who is willing to describe you and your pipe bomb as “a little explosive device, and boys like to see things go bang you walk out the door on $10,000 bail.

If you’re Arab born Canadian, and your skin is a little darker, and your name is Maher Arar, and you have no IED in your carry on bag, and you have no friends in high places, but they “think” you know something, you get nabbed at the airport you’re passing through, deported to a country known to engage in torture, and hopefully forgotten about.

You’d think that the hypocrisy of it all would make America ashamed wouldn’t ya?

SL, you forgot to mention that when said light skinned American is bailed out by his parents and kept at home under curfew, he is referred to as a “boy”. At age 24, most people would be called an adult.

I’m thinking Donald Rumsfeld might just take “boys like to see things go bang” as a personal motto. Pueri res pulsans videre amant. Kinda trips off your tongue.

Excellent point, especially in light of the number of children (real ones even, not old enough to be in junior high school were one available for them to attend) that Bush and his administration consider such a danger to the United States and the world that they have to be locked up in places like Abu Ghraib so that right thinking Americans can sleep safe in their beds.

    More friggen hypocrisy.

Ironic that this mayor is making light about boys and their bombs.

Last I remember, a light skinned boy in Oklahoma watched a “thing” go bang it was a federal building.

Maybe if they had just given him a curfew….
