Don’t look for much out of the bunker today - possibly there will be something later this evening but in a few minutes I’m gonna be wandering out of here to spend the day at Parliament Hill with other proud Canadians celebrating our great nations birth, being thankful for being born Canadian, and being exceedingly thankful that our children could be raised in an open and tolerant society where diversity of all kinds is accepted and acclaimed instead of viewed with fear and suspicion.
Many Canadian bloggers will today write about why they are proud to be Canadians, it will be a very long list by the end of the day - to that list I will add the following thoughts.
Over to the left is the original Canadian Maple Leaf flag that is flying over the Peace Tower today - a flag that people who camped on the lawn of Parliament Hill last night so that they wouldn’t miss a thing today woke up under. Where else in the world can the people of a country, or visitors to that country, pitch their tent on an lawn that is not fenced in, within in a stones throw of government, and spend the night? Among all other things in the world that make us what we are and give us cause to be proud that subtile right and privilege is something to be very proud of my friends, the fact that we can do that says something great about our people, our country, and our government.
My name is Marcel and I am a proud Canadian.

Belated happy Canada Day to you, Marcel, Balbulican, and of course, the lovely and talented Bunkerettes.
