It’s hard to read this and not think of Coppola’s “The Godfather”. the multigenerational saga in which an aging father hands over his empire to a younger son, and now, in his twilight years, broods over the future…. so imagine that the film division of the Stageleft Basement Bunker is shopping around our treatment for a remake. Give us a hand with the casting.
– and yes, we know, many of the players fit well in multiple roles, that’s why the questions begin with “Who is most likely……”
Who is most likely to play Don Corleone? The ultimate “You either stand with me or you stand against me” kind of guy whose enemies are ruthlessly hunted down and killed.
Who is most likely to play Bonasera? The man forced to prove that he believes in the family.
What about consigliere Tom Haden? Always in the background, quietly ruthless, endlessly figuring out how the illegal can be defended?
Who is most likely to play Johnny Fontane? The man whose dream was to be brought into the public eye and thereby enhance his career…. and who is loyal to the Godfather to the end.
Who is most likely to play Michael Carleone? The innocent fool who turns out to be even more ruthless and evil than Don Corleone himself.
And Mike’s sister Condi (whoops, sorry, I mean CONNIE)…ruthless, vicious, hopelessly devoted to la famiglia, and always dressed in black?
Who is most likely to play Jack Woltz? The guy who chases the consigliere away with racial slurs, insults, and threats of violence?
Who is most likely to utter a line like “Leave the guns. Take the cannoli.”
Who is most likely to put, or order put, the head of a dead ruminant in someones bed?
Have fun, and do tell us why you think what you do.

I agree with Bush Sr. as Don Corleone, that’s pretty straightforward, runs the family, sons still seek his advice.
Sonny should definitely be played by George Dubya, a hot-headed “war-time Don” that prefers action over thought. Lots of tough guy dialogue, but when it comes down to it, isn’t really fit to run anything.
Cheney could play Luca Brasi, the guy you send into negotiate when there’s really none left to do. No emotion, inherently evil, the families most trusted heavy.
Who do you guys think Freddie’s character would be best suited for?
