The answer to that is fairly simple Miko, security has been in the crapper since day one of this whole mess and those working against the US led occupation of Iraq are taking advantage of that…. it comes from, IMO, poor planning. The whole idea that the invaders would be met at the gates with flowers and fresh bread was either
(a) simple propaganda to help sell things at home
(b) poor planning
(c) stupidity
At one point, at least in the talking points, winning hearts and minds was supposedly a priority - they gave up on that and this is one of the results.
If Japan ever behaved like that (in modern times, we all know it’s done that in the past and is still paying for it now in so many ways) I would be so disgusted that I would simply leave. It’s easy for me to say, though.
I just want the whole thing to stop. It’s heartbreaking. What did those innocent people ever do?
Shusshhhhh… don’t call them people or you’ll have all those folks over there in the “Special Visitors” category visiting your site as well….. when they refer to them at all it’s as “collatoral damage” or “non-combatant casualities” so they don’t actually have faces or families like “people” do.
As to what they did, that’s fairly easy as well. They had the simple bad fortune to be born in a time and place that played a role in a certain war presidents ambition and agenda - for that they died, by the tens of thousands.

Please be assured that although I’m many bad things, I’m not a troll! I have been getting a marvellous political education, both here and at Any Which Way (they have been so kind to me, so go and see). The funny thing is, I didn’t have any strong political leanings until a few years ago when the whole thing became so abjectly ridiculous that I wanted to shout to people, “wake up, stop believing all the crap that they are feeding you!” No-one needed to tell me how to think.
How any right-minded person can believe that Bush is genuinely for the good is beyond me. How much more will it take?
Look at the terrible (and deserved) smackdown that Japan got. I don’t ever want that to happen again, to any innocent people.

Miko, this is heartbreaking. I keep seeing the image of that little girl crying hysterically when her parents were shot in that patrolling incident a few weeks ago. It’s enough to make you cry.
