Prime Minister Martin has basically confirmed what we said in a previous comment on the subject of the new American weapons program

“I don’t think that anyone expected that there would be any other finger on a button than the Americans,”

We were a little more blunt

Do you seriously believe that if the system was put in place on Canadian soil that our government would have any friggen say what-so-ever about how or when it was used? Get serious, we would have had some sort of symbolic seat at some table some where but trust me dude, that would have been the extent of it.

If future administrations mirror the current one I expect the best Martin, or any Canadian Prime Minister, may possibly get is a very short phone call from the Whitehouse saying “We’re pushing the button, it’s gonna go through your airspace, thank you for your interest, have a nice day”. Remember folks, this is the country that has cops who crash our borders during highspeed chases for carjacking, hostage-taking and robbery, kill Canadians in the process, and then call it justified. Just imagine how easily they could justify sending a missile into the airspace of another country, the phrase “war on terror” is probably quite enough for them.

If it is in response to an actual missile attack that comes through Canadian airspace, fine, push the button - but really now, what country/group that may want to shoot a missile at the US is geographically placed to use Canadian airspace to do so? And while we’re asking questions like this maybe someone could tell us all who has the technology to achieve this task who would actually do it?
