Another flareup at Vinny’s on the Evolution vs. Creationism front. Maybe one of these days I’ll write something long and pompous about the deep qualitative differences between Faith and Science as systems for processing reality. But in the meantime, I’m simply going to request fair play from the pro-Creationism crowd. They’re religious, right? They’re into fair play, right? Well, there you go then.
Since they insist that religion must have equal footing with science in science texts and classes, I think the scientific point of view deserves equal status in religious textbooks. I shall therefore demand that every Bible bear the following sticker, prominently displayed:
Readers should be aware that the explanation of cosmic, terrestrial, plant, animal and human origins set out in this manual are only a theory, largely unsupported by evidence. There are a number of other creation theories, some of which meet scientific criteria, and many of which are even more entertaining than this one.
The reader is also warned that this manual contains some highly improbable, unverifiable, unreplicable and scientifically unsound assertions relating to human conception, lifespan, the impact of blowing trumpets on the length of a day and on masonry, geology, meteorology, biology, archaeology, marine architecture, cetacean diet, linguistics, history, medicine, physics, and cosmology.
I shall insist that all sermons, Papal encyclicals, and private counselling by clergymen include a similar advisory.

F-1 if ever I’ve seen one.
