What with all the discussion and muttering about “traditional marriage” or even just “marriage” supposedly being redefined nobody seems to have noticed that the word “America” is quietly coming to mean something other than the home of freedom and democracy.
In This Isn’t America Paul Krugman brings this up as a result of an OpEd piece in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz noting a quote regarding the killing of Yassin that says
“This isn’t America; the government did not invent intelligence material nor exaggerate the description of the threat to justify their attack.”
Krugman comments:
So even in Israel, George Bush’s America has become a byword for deception and abuse of power.
This is something that should worry Americans. The US has suffered significant credibility loss via the comments of it’s allies [as well as a few high placed former administration types] lately… Spain talking about a war based on lies, Poland basically saying they had been duped, and now this out of Israel.
- - if this is what their ’friends’ think Joe Blow American citizen should really be concerned about what light the world in general sees them in.
