Fears of terrorist attack have cast a shadow over New Year celebrations around the globe with warplanes patrolling American skies and armed undercover sky marshals guarding some flights.

Armed helicopters will patrol the restricted airspace over the Strip on New Year’s Eve to protect Las Vegas from a potential terrorist attack, authorities said Tuesday.
The Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday that it will restrict private flights over Las Vegas and New York for New Year’s Eve. Private aircraft will be banned from sensitive locations such as over the Las Vegas strip, Hoover Dam, and Times Square.

Rep. Christopher Shays (R-Conn.) offered his regrets yesterday, telling The Post that he’d avoid the Times Square crowd because it’s a “tempting target” for terrorists. “I wouldn’t go to Times Square. That is my opinion. It is one based on the reality that the government has declared a Code Orange,” said Shays.
