All the news, as it happens, from the our intrepid man on the scene.

Quijiibo has advised that he will remain on the 11th floor of his dorm over-looking Halifax harbour for the course of this event and provide up-to-date information as events unfold - he also hopes to get his assignment (due tomorrow morning) finished before the battery in his laptop dies should the power fail as a result of Hurricane Juan.

[Quijiibo Report #8 - 9:30 AM Halifax Time (Sept/29)] Quijiibo called this morning to let us know that he’s o/k but things are pretty grim in Halifax. Power is out, trees are down all over the place, pieces of houses and buildings are laying in the streets, and there has been a lot of flooding - including on the 11th floor!

It seems that the rain has/is coming through the roof (damaged by wind) faster than it can flow through to the lower floors and they are partially awash. The word is that they spent the night sitting around the dorm eating ice cream and talking until this morning and are now going out to take a good look around.

[Quijiibo Report #7 - 11:45 PM Halifax Time] We have reached Quijiibo by phone, all power has been lost so we cannot get further updates by IM systems. According to Quijiibo the wind and rain are really wild, rain is being driven into the windows and they can feel the walls of the building shaking.

At this point he has advised that while they have no electricity he does have about 4 hours of life left in his laptop battery so he will be able to finish his assignment. He also reports that they have a sufficient stock of fresh drinking water to last the storm as well as enough water in the bathtub to keep the “facilities” working. Quijiibo ended the telephone call in favour of an “eat all the ice cream before it melts” session taking place in his dorm room - spirits are high and we are told not to worry.

[Quijiibo Report #6 - 11:15 PM Halifax Time] Quijiibo has gone off line - we assume that he has lost power and connectivity.

[Quijiibo Report #5 - 11:00 PM Halifax Time] Lights flickering, very much more windy, lamp posts are shaking

[Quijiibo Report #4 - 10:37 PM Halifax Time] Just a bit of more wind

[Quijiibo Report #3 - 10:05 PM Halifax Time] The wind’s picking up, we’re glad we didn’t waste money on fans. The rain is a steady but not a heavy downpour. The bathtub is full of water, we might’ve seen a flash of lightning, all flashlights have been inventoried, and we have some water in containers in the fridge.

[Quijiibo Report #2 - 9:34 PM Halifax Time] Getting windy, it’s raining too…. getting pretty crazy, not very, but getting worse

[Quijiibo Report #1 - 9:00 PM Halifax Time] There’s nothing goin on, wind’s about the same, a bit of rain, nothing much…
